080210-001 Tornado Coupling pressure test
Date 10th February 2008
Tested by PK and GK.
Location Sydney, Australia
Test Procedure Burst Test - Coupling
References http://www.AirCommandRockets.com/day54.htm

Aim

  • To test the failure pressure of a tornado coupling.

Experiment Setup

The standard hydrostatic burst test procedure was used to carry out these tests. (See above)

The tornado couplings were made of Type B bottle caps glued together inside a short length of T8 FTC with PL Premium glue. We let it cure for a number of days.

Results

The coupling let go at around 110psi which was not very good. The main problem was the glue's lack of adhesion to the polypropylene caps. It came off cleanly. The glue held well to the FTC.
