Static Fire Testing Procedure

Overview

This procedure is used for observing a rocket's behaviour during firing while it remains attached to the ground. This procedure can be used when for example observing the flow inside the rocket or the flow out of the nozzle.

Caution

Due to the high pressures involved perform this experiment behind a safety barrier.

Equipment

  • Air source. This includes pumps, tanks, compressors etc.
  • Static test stand
  • Cameras - still / video

Procedure

  1. Prepare the rocket by attaching the components to be examined and fill with the appropriate amount of water.
  2. Place the rocket on the test stand.
  3. Ensure the rocket is firmly attached to the test stand so it can not fly off.
  4. Pressurise the rocket to the desired pressure.
  5. Start cameras recording.
  6. Launch.
  7. Stop cameras and record observations.

Notes

  1. Ensure the rocket is properly secured to the test stand and that the test stand is properly secured to the ground.
