Day 160 - Chasing Rockets
Date: 12th April 2015
Location:
Whalan, NSW, Australia
Conditions:
Partly cloudy, light winds  5km/h early,
Team Members at Event:
PK, GK, Paul K, and John K.

Just a quick update this week since we weren't doing any experiments, but included here for completeness.

RC car with GoPro

We mounted the GoPro to the top of John's RC car to see if we could chase down the rocket as it was landing. Unfortunately the grass was still quite tall and so the car had trouble getting anywhere at speed. We mostly limited the movement to the paths at the park. We managed to get a couple of shots though, but we'll need to try again to get better results.

One thing that was tricky was knowing which direction to go when the rocket was moving overhead. John had to keep one eye on the rocket and one eye on the car so that he could steer it in the right direction. All up we did 4 water rocket flights.

Ready to Go

But first need to fill in the log book

The boys also flew their pyro rockets in a drag race, which was a first for them, Both rockets took of well and nearly at the same time, Both were recovered safely down range.
